Portraiture in
Clay
Instructor
Caryn van Wagtendonk will help students plan and
execute one or more clay portrait sculptures. These may take the shape
of animals, humans or be totally abstract. The class will discuss ways to
incorporate symbolism in the forms and imagery one chooses. Inspiration may
be found in making an homage to someone you
admire, memorializing your cross-eyed old cat, or envisioning a new you in
clay! All ideas are welcome. Caryn will demonstrate construction
techniques that utilize slabs, coiling and sectional
building. Students will learn how to finish their pieces with
appropriate surface treatments, including the application of stains, slips,
and glazes.
Wednesday,
7:00 – 9:30PM (January 18 – March 7) van Wagtendonk
