@ Good Dirt Dear Friends of Good Dirt, Happy
New Year! Thanks to all of you who
helped make our Holiday Open House a success and a lot of fun. I hope all your gallery purchases brought a
lot of happiness either to you or to the lucky recipient of your gift. Special thanks go out to our collaborators
at 1000faces Coffee and the Food Bank of We’ll
be starting up a new 8-week session of clay classes very shortly, and there
are some exciting new offerings.
I’ll be teaching a class on clay musical instruments, and Jen
Graff will be sharing her creative approach to surface decoration and altered
forms. Caryn van Wagtendonk
will instruct students in how to create sculptural portraits of people and
animals. Carter Gillies’
class on pouring vessels will address not only how to create a wide range of
pouring forms but also how to give the pots an expressive character. More advanced morning students can tackle
some out-of-round pieces in my Tuesday class on serving pieces. Kim
will offer three glass fusing workshops this term on Sunday afternoons (Jan.
22, Feb. 5, and Feb. 19). Each
workshop is a self-contained project, so students can take any or all topics. Mature teens are also welcome to take these
classes. |
If your kids have come to the
studio before and loved working on the wheel, don’t forget that we
offer a Youth Wheel class that meets Monday afternoons after school. Kids ages 8 and up will have a blast with
Katie learning how to work on the potter’s wheel. We also have workshops on the days out of
school for the kids to enjoy clay in the studio on Jan. 16, Feb. 13, Feb. 20
and the entire week of Spring Break (March 12-16 for Clarke; April 9-13
